Portland In Top 40 Rattiest Cities 2024

The KOIN 6 website recently posted an article titled, “Portland ranked among ‘rattiest’ cities in the US, according to Orkin’s 2024 report“. The Orkin 2024 reported listed Portland at #38 according to this article.

As for Portland? Fortunately, the Rose City didn’t make the top 10, but it still found a spot in the full list.

Additional information from the article reads:

As temperatures begin to cool, as they are currently across much of the country, homeowners may experience rat infestations, Orkin warns.

“Rodents can cause a lot of structural problems for property owners,” says John Kane, Orkin National Accounts Entomologist & Quality Manager. “They can get in around piping and even chew through walls. These tiny culprits tend to chew through wiring, which poses an increased risk of fires.”

Because rats reproduce quickly, even a small infestation can become a serious problem. Orkin says warning signs of an infestation include rodent droppings, scratching or scurrying sounds, gnaw marks, rub marks, and burrows.

To help keep rats out, Orkin recommends sealing entry points, clearing up food sources and debris, ensuring your trash containers are sealed, and fixing water leaks.

We offer several natural ways to address rodent removal (such as rats and mice) as well as rat birth control in order to reduce the rat population in your home or building. Here is some more information on our rodent removal process:

Our Approach to Natural Rodent Control

  • Visit 1: We do a full property inspection and lay out our recommendations. If all you need is expert advice, then the cost is $99. If you purchase the 3 Visit Plan that inspection fee is waived. We usually set traps but do not seal holes at the first visit to avoid sealing the rodents inside.
  • Visit 2: We return in about a week to check traps and seal off entry holes with rodent-proof materials. Note that we charge extra for roof work that requires a safety harness.
  • Visit 3: The final visit could be as simple as confirming that there is no new activity or it could involve more sealing if we find new entry holes.
